Munger understood the temptation and danger of turtling better than most. His investment philosophy required patience and defensive discipline — sitting on cash, avoiding bad deals, waiting for the right opportunity — which superficially resembles turtling. But Munger's approach was fundamentally different: he was defensively positioned in order to strike offensively when opportunities appeared. The distinction is critical. Turtling means hiding with no plan to attack. Munger's discipline was conservation of resources for decisive action.
