Use mimetic desire deliberately. Seed adoption among influential early users whose desire will be copied. Create visible signals of demand — waitlists, invitation-only access, public endorsements. But build real value underneath. Mimetic demand gets you attention; product quality keeps it.

Arnault built the world’s largest luxury empire by mastering mimetic desire. LVMH’s brands — Louis Vuitton, Dior, Moet — don’t sell products; they sell objects of mediated desire. Arnault understood that luxury value is mimetic: people want these goods because other people visibly want them. He engineered scarcity, controlled distribution, and placed products on desire models — celebrities, tastemakers, the aspirational elite — to trigger imitation. The business model is mimetic theory made commercial: create the model, control the object, and let copied desire drive demand.
