Procrastination is the act of delaying important tasks in favour of less important but more immediately comfortable ones — despite knowing the delay will cost you. It's not laziness; it's an emotional regulation failure. People procrastinate to avoid the discomfort associated with a task — anxiety, boredom, fear of failure, or ambiguity about where to start. In business, procrastination manifests as deferred hard conversations, postponed strategic decisions, avoided technical debt, and delayed market entries. The cost compounds: a difficult conversation postponed for a week becomes a crisis postponed for a month. The founder who avoids the pivot conversation, the manager who delays the firing, the team that won't address the architectural flaw — all are procrastinating, and the bill always comes due with interest.

Reduce the activation energy of difficult tasks. Break them into the smallest possible first step. Schedule the uncomfortable work for your highest-energy window. Use accountability structures — public commitments, deadlines, co-working sessions — to create external pressure that compensates for internal avoidance.
