Protect your team's focus ruthlessly. Every time you react to a competitor's noise, you're giving them a free distraction. Keep a short list of strategic priorities and evaluate every shiny new input against it. If it's not on the list, it's a distraction.

Jobs was famous for saying "focus means saying no to the hundred other good ideas." When he returned to Apple in 1997, he killed dozens of products and projects to focus the company on four core offerings. He understood that distraction — internal or competitive — was the real enemy. Every product Apple didn't make was attention it didn't waste. Every competitor feature Apple ignored was a distraction it didn't chase. Founders can apply this by treating their attention and their team's attention as a finite strategic resource. Don't just decide what to do — decide what not to respond to. The competitor who controls their own attention wins more than the competitor who controls their opponent's.
