Challenge decline narratives with data. When your team says a process "used to work," pull the actual numbers. Often the old way had equal or worse problems that memory has smoothed over. Use this to maintain forward momentum.

Bezos built Amazon's culture around "Day 1" thinking — the explicit rejection of declinism inside an organisation. He warned that "Day 2 is stasis, followed by irrelevance, followed by excruciating, painful decline." Rather than romanticising how things used to be, Bezos insisted on treating every phase as the beginning, maintaining urgency and curiosity.
