The Pomodoro Technique structures work into 25-minute focused intervals separated by 5-minute breaks, with a longer break after four cycles. The mechanism exploits two psychological principles: time pressure creates urgency (Parkinson's Law), and planned breaks prevent cognitive depletion. The technique works not because 25 minutes is a magic number but because any fixed interval with a hard stop forces prioritization within the window and prevents the indefinite, unfocused work sessions that drain energy without producing output. It converts continuous time into discrete, measurable units — making progress visible and procrastination harder to sustain.

Pick a single task. Set a 25-minute timer. Work on nothing else until it rings. Take a 5-minute break. Repeat. After four cycles, take a 15–30 minute break. Track your Pomodoros to build a data set on how long tasks actually take — this corrects planning fallacy over time. Protect the interval from interruptions; if something comes up, note it and return to it after the timer.
